ARMSTRONG SCORES F2 SPRINT WIN

Kiwi Marcus Armstrong has broken through for his first win of the 2022 Formula 2 season, victorious in the reverse grid Sprint Race at Imola.
The Hitech Grand Prix driver jumped well from second on the grid and then led the entirety of the encounter, coming home comfortably ahead of PREMA Racing pair Jehan Daruvala and Dennis Hauger.
DAMS’ Roy Nissany took his best result of the season in fourth ahead of Felipe Drugovich.
Logan Sargeant started on pole but was quickly swamped by the field, falling back in the order early before finishing sixth.
Théo Pourchaire was seventh for ART Grand Prix, while Kiwi Liam Lawson took the final points placing in eighth place.
Ayumu Iwasa and Frederik Vesti rounded out the top 10, the latter surging past Aussie Jack Doohan late in the race.
It was a forgettable race on the whole for the Australians in the field, Calan Williams coming home 14th in his Trident machine.
The pair did cross the line though, which could not be said for all the competitors.
David Beckmann spun on the opening lap, copping contact which forced him to retire.
Amaury Cordeel was also eliminated early, crashing on his way to the grid prior to the start of the race.
Ralph Boschung was also a retirement on lap 9, coming to a halt on the side of the track with an issue.
