MOTOGP ROUND RESCHEDULED AFTER FREIGHT DELAY

MOTOGP ROUND RESCHEDULED AFTER FREIGHT DELAY

By Timothy Neal

Delays in transferring critical freight from Indonesia to Argentina have seen the South American MotoGP World Championship round delayed by one day.

On track action for all classes will begin on Saturday local time (Saturday night Australian time), with just one Friday session cancelled as the schedule is condensed.

Five cargo flights were planned to ship paddock materials from Lombok, Indonesia to Tucuman, close to Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina, after the conclusion of the Indonesian GP.

However, two of those flights encountered issues and the freight will now not arrive until Friday, causing a schedule reshuffle.

Free Practice will now take place for all classes early on Saturday, with Qualifying taking place later than usual on the same day.

The combined Free Practice classification for entry into Q2 will be taken from FP1 and FP2 for each class, including MotoGP.

Warm Up sessions on Sunday have been extended, with each race set to begin at the same start time as originally scheduled.

Of the five planes transferring freight to Termas, two suffered technical issues. One developed its problem during a technical stop in Mombasa, Kenya, while the other broke down as it was in the process of completing a second round of freight transfer.

As of Thursday morning local time in Argentina, one cargo load remains grounded in Mombasa, Kenya.

The plane requires a replacement part to return to working order, which is being dispatched from Europe. A back up part is also en route from the Middle East.

It is expected that the plane will be able to complete its route from Mombasa via Lagos and Brazil to arrive in Tucuman on Friday.
