THE ADELAIDE 500 IS OFFICIALLY BACK

By Dan McCarthy

The South Australian Labor Party has been voted into power; this means that the Adelaide 500 is now officially the season ending race of the Supercars Championship in 2022.

Motorsport fans can rejoice as the Supercars Hall of Fame event on the streets of Adelaide is returning in December as South Australian Labor leader Peter Malinauskas has been elected as the new South Australian premier.

When former premier Steven Marshall announced that the event was to be axed affective immediately in late 2020, Malinauskas flew to Sydney and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with then Supercars CEO Sean Seamer.

This MOU confirmed that Labor would commit to bringing back the Adelaide 500 if they were elected in the March 2022 election, this has now become reality.

It is not just the Adelaide 500 returning, Malinauskas has already promised that the once blossoming Adelaide Motorsport Festival will be revived as well as the Adelaide Motorsport Board, a big win for South Australian Motorsport fans, Auto Action will hold them to this promise.

The Adelaide 500 will be held for the first time since 2020, and will take place from December 1-4, the first time it will be held as the season finale for the Supercars Championship.

The circuit ran as the season ending race for Formula 1 for the 11 years it was held until 1995 when the F1 race moved to Melbourne.

Marshall has just made his speech conceding that he has lost the state election.
