Satellite Ducati outfit Pramac Racing has announced the re-signing of riders Johann Zarco and Jorge Martin for the 2022 MotoGP season.

As both riders are directly under contract with Ducati Corse, Zarco and Martin will again ride the latest Desmosedici GP machines to come out of the Bologna-based factory.

The news of the riders re-signing comes one week after Pramac renewed its contract to be a satellite Ducati team through until the end of 2024.

The unchanged lineup is good continuity for the team and allows it to build on what has already been a strong start for the outfit in 2021.

“We are very satisfied to be able to continue on this ‘project’ with Johann and Jorge,” said Pramac Racing team principal Paolo Campinoti.

“Two boys with whom we get along very well and with whom we are reaching excellent results.

“Both Ducati and ourselves firmly believe in their abilities; we couldn’t be happier.”

After Aussie Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia progressed to the factory team this year, Pramac opted for a mixture of youth and experience.

In the first six races of the season with Pramac 30-year-old Zarco has emerged as a championship contender after scoring three podiums. The Frenchman sits third in the MotoGP standings, just 26-points behind leader Fabio Quartararo.

For Martin it has been a rollercoaster start to his rookie season in the premier class.

He scored points on debut in Qatar, which was eclipsed by scoring pole position before finishing third behind teammate Zarco.

Martin’s luck changed in Portugal when he fractured his left hand and foot in a crash, which forced him to miss the next four events.

But Ducati Corse sporting director Paolo Ciabatti is pleased with how the pair have fitted into the manufacturer’s MotoGP program and rewarded the duo with a contract extension.

“Johann and Jorge this year have inserted themselves very well in the Pramac Racing team,” Ciabatti said.

“For this reason, together with Paolo Campinoti and Francesco Guidotti, we have decided to proceed with them into 2022.

“We will put at the disposition of both, the official bikes for next season as well. We are certain that they will provide us with many satisfactions.”

Martin will make his return from injury this weekend in his home GP at Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya.
