TWO MORE FATALITIES ON FINAL DAY OF TARGA

The 2021 edition of the Targa Tasmania has been rocked by a further two fatalities on the final day of competition.
Following the death of 68-year-old Shane Navin yesterday, a further two gentlemen were killed today, taking the event death toll up to three.
On the first run of the Cygnet stage this morning a 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS hit a tree approximately 6.2 km into the stage this morning.
Medical and emergency teams were immediately dispatched to attend the scene of the crash, however, were unable to revive both the driver Leigh Mundy, and co-driver Dennis Neagle who both died at the scene.
The accident occurred at 11.45am AEST, before stages were downgraded at 12:17 to touring only and competitors returned to the finish at PW1 in Hobart.
“This has been a devastating few days for the Targa family,” said Targa Australia CEO, Mark Perry.
“Today our thoughts and deepest condolences go to Leigh and Dennis’ family and friends.
“Both loved Targa and we knew them so well, which makes their passing so difficult for everyone in our community. They will be sorely missed by us all.”
Targa Tasmania released a statement saying that the accident is now a coronial matter, and it will be making no further comments on the accidents that occurred.
The fatal accident today tragically brings the event death toll up to three, and fifth since the legendary tarmac rally began in 1992.
