Governing body Motorsport Australia has announced new restrictions, which is set to impact future national and state level events in New South Wales, placing doubt on the Bathurst 1000.

By HEATH McALPINE

Due to the recently implemented restrictions placed on the state by the NSW Chief Health Officer, from tomorrow (August 19) Motorsport Australia has announced a stoppage on state and national level events for what is expected to be a six-week period.

Small regional events will continue following Motorsport Australia’s Return To Race strategy and the NSW Government restrictions, which allow for local events for competitors of the locality and no overnight stays.

NSW joins Victoria as the only states that cannot host events.

The recent announcement means events cannot be held in NSW until September 30 at the earliest, which poses a degree of doubt on whether the Bathurst 1000 – scheduled for October 8-11 – will be held at all or if it is delayed.
