Tickford has won the race to reveal the first Ford Mustang in full racing warpaint.

Getting the jump on DJR Team Penske, Tickford Racing unveiled Cam Waters’ Monster Energy Mustang in familiar black and green livery.

Unexpectedly, the cover came off Waters’ entry this morning after Tickford-aligned 23Red Racing delayed the reveal of Will Davison’s Milwaukee Racing Mustang.

Originally scheduled to be the first Supercars Mustang to be shown yesterday (Saturday), Davo’s racer will now debut its look at the Phillip Island pre-season test on Thursday.

DJRTP will reveal the Shell V-Power Racing Mustangs of title-holder Scott McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard in Melbourne on Monday.

Tickford will launch the look of Chaz Mostert’s Supercheap Auto entry on Wednesday morning, with Lee Holdsworth’s The Bottle-O car to be unveiled on Wednesday evening.

Davison’s Milwaukee Racing version of the Mustang – like the Tickford cars, a rebodied Falcon FG X – will go public the following morning (Thursday).

23Red team owner Phil Munday has switched to a customer car deal with Tickford Racing, which will run Davison alongside Mostert, Waters and Holdsworth after handing back its fourth entry.

Munday’s operation at Kilsyth in outer eastern Melbourne, where the squad was based in its inaugural season last year, is making composite panels for all the Mustang racers.

The reveal of Waters’ Mustang comes with confirmation that energy drink giant Monster will back him for the fourth straight year.

Mildura native Waters, 24, is entering his fourth fulltime season with Tickford Racing – all of those under the Monster Energy Racing banner.

“Obviously, Monster Energy has been on my car since my rookie year, so I’m pumped to have them back on board for 2019,” Waters said. “They’re the perfect brand for what we do and they’ve been a great brand to represent, especially with the Mustang coming online this year.

“We’re entering a new era of the sport, what with the Mustang being the first two-door car and just the history behind Mustang, so it’ll be cool to have Monster be a part of it.

“Everyone’s wanted to see the Mustang Supercar in a race livery and it’s safe to say it looks fantastic in Monster Energy colours. It’ll still be the best looking car on track.

“I can’t wait to fire it up and, hopefully, celebrate some big results in it in 2019.”

Tickford Racing co-owner Rod Nash is excited to have Monster Energy back on board as the naming rights partner of Waters’ car, continuing the relationship that began in 2016.

“We’ve developed an excellent relationship with Monster Energy on and off the track the past few years, and I’m thrilled that we will get to continue that partnership,” Nash said. “There’s much to look forward to in 2019 and we’re glad that Monster share that enthusiasm.

“There’s a lot of enthusiasm in the media and in our workshop about the coming season, so we’re looking forward to getting out there.”

Tim Ryder, marketing director of Monster Energy-Oceania, is looking forward to seeing Waters reach new heights this year with the Mustang.

“Monster Energy’s link with motor sport around the world is an important part of our brand DNA and we are proud to continue our partnership with Tickford Racing,” Ryder said. “Tickford remains one of the top teams in Supercars and we look forward to celebrating their continued success in 2019.”

In fact, the former Ford factory team will be under pressure to lift its game significantly after a poor season in 2018.

All six Mustangs will make their public track debut at the February 14 Phillip Island test, which will be the first time the Ford two-door coupe runs against the Holden Commodore and Nissan Altima in circuit trials.

It will be the only chance for the Ford teams to gauge the Mustang’s form ahead of the season-opening March 1-3 Adelaide 500.
