Lewis Hamilton has produced a sensational lap to claim pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix overnight.

The Mercedes’ drivers time of 1m36.015s was over three seconds quicker than last year’s pole lap time. The blistering lap completed on his first run in Q3 which was unable to be bettered by anyone, including Hamilton on his second attempt.

“Wow. That was a hard qualifying session. That lap felt like magic.” said Hamilton

“I don’t really know where it came from but it all came together.”

“Naturally, I want to say a huge thank you to all the team, back at the factory. Everybody’s working so hard, really really, so hard to pull out all the little extra bits. Today I managed just for that one lap to get it right…”

“Honestly I’m super overwhelmed, absolutely overwhelmed, my heart’s racing. I might have an anxiety attack in a second.”

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will start on the front row after being the only person to even look like threatening Hamilton’s time.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) and Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) will make up the second row on the grid, while sixth was the best the Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) could muster to line up alongside Friday’s pacesetter Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari).
