McLaren will have a new management structure ahead of it’s home British Grand Prix after the resignation of Eric Boullier.

The team, which has continued to struggle since switching from Honda to Renault power units this year, has labelled its performance so far as “completely unacceptable”.

The resignation of Boullier, who had held his role with the McLaren since 2014, triggered a number of changes to the team’s management structure with Simon Roberts, COO of McLaren Racing, to oversee production, engineering and logistics. Andrea Stella appointed as Performance Director, responsible for trackside operations. While Gil de Ferran takes up the new role of Sporting Director, to maximise the effectiveness of the team’s racing package.

McLaren Racing Chief Executive, Zak Brown hopes the changes will bring stability to the top of the team’s structure, after a string of different team principals in recent seasons.

“Obviously our results this year have demonstrated that we have a big performance issue,” acknowledged Brown while speaking to the media.

“We are punching well below our weight given the history, the talent of people, the resources, and the technology at our disposal.

“This comes from a culmination of really being destabilised over many years within our team.

“If you look at our past seven or eight years we have had different CEOs, different shareholders; shareholders in, shareholders out; CEOs in, CEOs out, and have really failed to get on a stable footing to be able to rebuild this great team, which is now what we are going to do.

“I think we all share in the pain of not seeing a McLaren being as successful as we know it can be,”

“It is a completely unacceptable situation we find ourselves in. It is very painful for all of us here at McLaren.”

McLaren admitted that the changes are the beginning of a comprehensive programme of positive changes to the technical leadership of McLaren’s racing organisation. The team will invest to retain and attract the best talent, internally and externally, to return McLaren Racing to the front of the grid.

The changes will take effect ahead of this weekends British Grand Prix.
