Dorna Sports, promoter of MotoGP, has launched an all-new electric support class, the FIM MotoE World Cup.

The world’s first fully electric motorcycle circuit racing series will debut in 2019 with naming rights support for sustainable energy partner Enel.

“Dorna, together with the FIM, are delighted to move ahead into the world of electric mobility – an option we consider a parallel path for the future.” said Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO Dorna Sports.

“Today we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Enel as the official title sponsor for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, as well as being the Sustainable Power Partner of MotoGP – a technical partner we look forward to working within this new venture.

“We are satisfied with the commitment and values Enel encapsulates, as they perfectly highlight the principles that the new FIM Enel MotoE World Cup is founded on.”

18 bikes will make up the field with all seven privateer MotoGP teams, Tech 3, LCR, Marc VDS, Pramac, Avintia, Angel Nieto (formerly Aspar) and Gresini, fielding two bikes each. Another four teams from the Moto2 and Moto3 field will also run a single bike each.

Italian company Energica will build the Fast Charge electric motorcycles for the series.
