Territorian Super2 driver Bryce Fullwood will join Matt Stone Racing in next year’s series confirming that he will drive a second DJR Team Penske Ford Falcon for the team.

Following the announcement that the Queensland-based squad will step up to the Supercars Championship with this year’s Super2 Series winner Todd Hazelwood, Fullwood is another young gun that has come off his best season in the class to date. The 19-year-old started the season in an older-spec FG Falcon before stepping up to a Nissan Altima, which was highlighted by his second place at Sandown.

Fullwood is looking forward to a new challenge, but is expecting to be right up the front in Adelaide.

“It’s going be a new challenge working with new people and a new car after I’ve just clicked with the Nissan,” said Fullwood.

It was a successful season for Fullwood in 2017

“However, with the success of the past 12 months for DJR Team Penske in those chassis, we are hoping we can utilise that and come out with a very competitive package for 2018. Hopefully it won’t take too long to get our heads around the Ford, then we can challenge for podium finishes and ultimately the Championship.”

Fullwood is keen learn of Hazelwood and is hoping to follow in his footsteps.

”I’m really looking forward to racing with Matt Stone and his team, to be part of a team that’s in it’s infancy in the main Supercar Series will be pretty special. I’ll be learning a lot from Todd who I’ve known for many years, having first met in Go Karts. Todd has shown that great reward can come from hard work and I’ll be working as hard as I can to emulate Todd’s success in the Super2 Series”.

Matt Stone Racing is expected to receive its new machinery before Christmas. A testing program will commence ahead of the opening round in Adelaide on March 1-4.
