Jolyon Palmer will vacate his seat in the Renault Formula 1 team after tomorrow’s Japanese Grand Prix the Brit has announced.

Amid rampant speculation about his future, Palmer has revealed after Qualifying that he will not see out this year’s Formula 1 season.

“Tomorrow’s Japanese GP will be my last race for Renault,” Palmer told his fans on Instagram.

“With my grid penalty I’ll be starting near the back but I will be giving it my all as always. Thanks everyone for the support during the last two years, it means a lot!”

Carlos Sainz Jr looks to be the favourite to start his tenure at Renault early, which enables Daniil Kyvat to move back into his Toro Rosso seat alongside Pierre Gasly. Gasly may decide to miss the US Grand Prix to chase the Super Formula title.

His career-best sixth at the Singapore Grand Prix was thought to have eased the pressure of the 26-year-old, though it is unclear why the relationship was ended.

We will have full analysis of the weekends Formula 1 action in the next issue of Auto Action Magazine, on sale next week. For updates between issues, make sure you follow us on social media FacebookTwitter, Instagram or sign up for our weekly email newsletter.
