There has been a lot of hype surrounding the new format Shannons Adelaide Rally. Formerly the Classic Adelaide Rally, the event is now open to Classic and Modern Cars complying with any one of 4 different CAMS regulations, the event has aimed for more inclusivity and diversity amongst the field, which seems to be proving a real hit with competitors.

Already confirmed in the field are genuine WRC and Group B Rally cars as well as current Tarmac Rally cars, Hillclimb and Circuit Sprint specials from different era’s.

Promising over 27 stages and 3 days the event takes in some of the Adelaide Hills best roads and combines them with a Quarter Mile Sprint at the eagerly awaited “The Bend” Motorsport Park, two Hillclimbs and other activities apart from Closed Road Stages.

Run as a Touring Road Event the stages are under 3km and are hand picked sections that challenge the driver and machine. The super-tight and technical nature of the event has sparked the interest of Irish Internet Sensation Frank Kelly who is confirmed to compete in his high flying Mk2 Escort that has accumulated millions of views on Youtube.

With the revised format has come a significant reduction in costs. Early bird pricing (cuts off July 30) of under $2000 now gets Full Competition entrants a guernsey for all the action including peripheral events of the Gouger Street Party and inclusion in the greater Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

For those with non-complying cars you can still come to play, as an all-comers category has been created for those cars modified outside the rules which still comply with general safety requirements.

Given that all elements of this event enjoyed the participation of over 250 cars in 2016, we are seeing The Adelaide Rally emerge as one of the greatest multi day Tarmac Events in the Country.
