Miller excites crowd by topping Aus GP opener

Phillip Island is alive as Australia’s Jack Miller went straight to the top of the leaderboard in the opening session of the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
Miller sent the home crowd into raptures by posting a 1:28.28 on his Prima Pramac Yamaha at the death at Phillip Island.
It was enough to sneak clear of Alex Marquez by 0.036s as less than two tenths covered the rest of the top four.
Fellow Spaniards Pedro Acosta and Fermin Aldeguer filled that.
Miller had spent much of the session outside the top 10, but the #42 came alive at the very end.
There has already been some drama with Franco Morbidelli suffering a heavy fall at the fast Doohan Corner.
Thankfully, he was able to get back on his bike and finish 14th.
Joan Mir on his Honda was 12th after experiencing mechanical dramas.
The race is wide open, given the entire front row from last year’s race, Marc Marquez, Jorge Martin and Maverick Vinales, are not in action this weekend due to injury.
In 2025, Miller is back at the Pramac squad, where he raced at from 2018-2020.
In his last Phillip Island start at the team, he stood on the podium with a fighting third in 2019.
But in 2025 Pramac is now with Yamaha rather than Ducati.
MotoGP returns to the Island at 15.00 AEDT for the final practice session of Friday.
