Powerful new addition to sprintcar summer

Sprintcars at Sydney

By Thomas Miles

The action will not stop when the Brandt Sprintcar Speedweek wraps up with a new Power Tour offering a new prize on the East Coast.

Just two days after the Speedweek concludes at Warrnambool on New Year’s Day, the new Power Tour plugs in at Sydney International Speedway.

That kicks off a seven-race schedule that heads north to Toowoomba for three races in Queensland before a one-night stop in Mildura and a doubleheader at Bordertown’s Tolmer Speedway to wrap it up.

It will pay over $300,000 in A and B-Main prizemoney plus a points fund after the seven nights.

The Power Tour will bridge the gap between the Speedweek and traditional “Classic Week” on the East Coast at the end of the month.

Brandt Sprintcar Speedweek organiser Wade Aunger said it could have been even bigger, but feels a seven-race inugural season will be a strong way to start.

“We’re excited to continue the momentum from Brandt Sprintcar Speedweek into another seven nights of competition,” he said.

“We feel that we have a very lucrative three weeks of racing to attract teams and fans alike across SA, Victoria, NSW and Queensland. With over half a million dollars in prize and points money incentives we’re very grateful to the venues for investing in the Power Tour concept and we’re excited to put on some fantastic racing.

“We’ve had talks with several other Speedways in Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT about hosting rounds, but for now we’ll stay with the consistency of the schedule and the appeal of the venues we’ve locked in for our first season.

“For 2026/2027 there’s every likelihood that we can increase the Sprintcar Power Tour by at least three-four more rounds and venues. For this summer though, we need to focus on making the rounds we do have at the tracks we do have successful for the fans, the teams and the Promoters.”
