Norris happy to ‘put Montreal behind me’

Lando Norris winner of 2025 Austriain winner

By Thomas Miles

The all-McLaren battle for the F1 title is well and truly on with Lando Norris delighted to “put Montreal behind me” and win a classic Austrian Grand Prix.

After crashing into his teammate Oscar Piastri at Canada, Norris needed to respond at happy-hunting ground Red Bull Ring and did just that.

After a breathtaking battle for victory in the first stint, Norris held off Piastri to take a timely third win of 2025 and reduce the deficit to 15 points.

Despite being a track where he has produced some of his most memorable drives in 2020 and 2024, the Brit admitted it was a “stressful” time behind the wheel, but was thrilled to bounce back from the costly mistake in Canada.

“Stressful for sure, not the most comfortable position to be in, but it was a good battle between us,” Norris, who led from pole said.

“It was good to kind of have to put Montreal behind me for sure.

“It’s something I wish never happened, but it was nice that we could go out and have a good battle and push things to the limits.

“There were still some close moments, but nothing that would make Andrea or the pit wall sweat too much.

“It’s fulfilling for me. It gives me good confidence.”

The weekend could not have gone much better for Norris.

Norris was unbeatable across the entire weekend, topping FP2, Q1, Q2, Q3 and the race.

He revealed he has been working harder than ever as the championship pressure intensifies.

“It’s been a good clean weekend from FP2 onwards. Felt very comfortable and very on top of the car and performed exactly as I want to and as I need to. I just had a clean weekend,” he said.

“It’s not that I’ve not been able to do it before and the pace has always been there at certain points. It’s just there’s been some different reasons for different things.

“It doesn’t come just because I’ve turned up this weekend and things are better.

“I’m working a lot. I’m doing a lot more work than I used to away from the track with the team, on the simulator, with my own team, trying to improve everything that I can, both on and off the track.

“I think it’s more a positive thing to see a lot of those things paying off immediately. Good step in the right direction, so we will keep working.”
All eyes will be on Norris ahead of his home race, the British Grand Prix this weekend.
