Penske #6 Porsche disqualified from Hyperpole

By Timothy Neal

Aussie Matt Campbell will start from the back of the Hypercar grid for the Le Mans 24 after Penske found itself in Qualifying drama once again.

The #6 963 that Kevin Estre drove to P4 for yesterday’s Hyperpole last 15 qualifications wasn’t deemed to meet its weight requirements in post-session scrutineering.

After Penske found itself in hot water at the Indy 500 qualifying with two of its cars put to the rear of the grid, it has been bitten by the officials once more in the WEC.

That means the #009 Valkyrie Aston Martin V12 machine will be elevated into the H1 session today, where five more will cut the cut with 10 advancing into H2 in the fight for pole.

The stewards’ bulletin read:

“Technical checks were conducted at the end of the qualifying session with the presence of team representatives. There, after having examined the Technical Delegate report, the Stewards considered the minimum car weight did not comply with the relevant regulations.

“During the hearing, the team manager confirmed and accepted the procedure of the scrutineering and the measurements. Consequently, the Stewards decided to impose the disqualification of car 6 from the qualifying session.

“Car 6 will start at the back of the grid of his category according to the Article 10.2.2 of 2025 24 hours of Le Mans supplementary regulations.”
