One historic track that is set to avoid the F1 calendar squeeze is Mexico thanks to a new three-year extension.

The deal ensures the Mexican Grand Prix will stay on the F1 calendar until 2028.

Since returning to the championship in 2015 after a 23-year hiatus of the race that was first seen in the pinnacle of motorsport back in 1963.

It is important for Mexican fans given they will still enjoy watching F1 despite knowing home hero Sergio Perez will not be racing for the first time in the event’s modern era.

Whilst much of the focus has been on Perez, the race has merged the old and new of the historic Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez to great effect.

The new part of the track produces one of the more unique spectacles of cars being surrounded by a packed former baseball stadium.

All nine races held at Hermanos Rodriguez since the return in 2015 have been sold out.

The confirmation is timely given the increasing interest of new countries in securing a race may see Imola be dropped once its contract expires in 2026.

“We are very excited to announce that the Mexico City Grand Prix will continue to be part of our calendar until 2028,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.

“Formula 1 is energy, passion and emotion, and every year the unique atmosphere created by our fans in Mexico City is one of the most incredible and energetic experiences of our championship.

“I want to express my sincere thanks to President Claudia Sheinbaum for her strong commitment to Formula 1, to the Head of Government Clara Brugada for her continued support and to Alejandro Soberón Kuri, whose leadership has been fundamental to the success of this event. I also want to thank the local stakeholders and businesses that share our vision and who make this event so special.

“We look forward to continuing this extraordinary collaboration together and seeing the incredible enthusiasm of the Mexican fans again in October.”

The Mexican Grand Prix will be the 20th race of the 2025 Formula 1 season and will be held on October 24-26.
