Race Delay? AGP facing weather delays

Moves are being made to try to move the start of the Australian Grand Prix back one hour tomorrow so that it will miss the worst of the expected rain.

We believe the drivers, teams, Pirelli, FIA, and Formula 1 are all lobbying for the move. However, several commercial aspects of starting the race late, including having the worldwide broadcasters on board, must be overcome first.

A Pirelli spokesman said he was concerned about the predicted level of rain for the Albert Park circuit. Because of the spray, a lot of the race could be run behind the Safety Car. A slight move in the start time may obviate some of the risk.

The other concern is whether the ‘time certain’ finish of 5.40 pm can be shifted to avoid the race shorts of the full distance.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts 75% rain, with at least 6mm possible and a 25% chance of up to 20mm.

Lando Norris will start the Australian Grand Prix from pole, with Melbourno local Oscar Piastri alongside him on the front row.

Stay tuned for more news as it comes to hand.
