Jack Smith makes shock Supercars return

By Thomas Miles

Jack Smith will make a surprise return to Supercars in 2025 when he partners Jaxon Evans in the enduros.

Smith is a veteran of 132 Supercars starts, but stepped away from the sport at the end of the 2023 season.

The 25-year-old’s best result is 10th at SMP in 2020, his only top 10 of his career which includes four full time seasons at BJR in the SCT entry, plus a co-driving stint at MSR with Todd Hazelwood.

Despite not being in the driver’s seat, he still attended a number of races in 2024.

Evans and Smith are a well known combination having teamed up in both the 2022 and 2023 Bathurst 1000s.

But in 2025 the roles will be reversed with Evans the main driver alongside Smith.

Smith will drive at The Bend 500 and Bathurst 1000 and will prepare for the drive by being part of Wednesday’s preseason test, plus a stint in Trans Am that is to be announced soon.

Smith is looking forward to returning to the top level.

“It’s a good feeling to be back. I’m really quite excited to get in the car again and regain a feel for it,” he said.

“I went to a few races last year and worked with Jaxon and the team so I have an understanding of where he’s going with the car. We work really well together and it’ll be great to race with him again.

“It’ll obviously be a bit different now that I’m the co-driver but there hasn’t been a lot of change since I left and we should have a good foundation to build from this year.”

SCT Logistics Head of Motorsport Andrew Jones is looking forward to bringing Smith back into the fold and believes his expertise will make a difference.

“With the experience and knowledge that Jack gained during his four years as a primary driver in the Supercars Championship, he will form an instrumental part of our endurance campaign for the Tailem Bend 500 and Bathurst 1000 later in the year,” Jones said.

“His desire and enthusiasm to be back racing again has really been infectious and in my mind says a lot about his strength of character.”

“While the roles have been switched since the last time Jaxon and Jack shared driving duties together, I think they will be at their strongest this year and look forward to having SCT Motorsport’s strongest campaign in 2025.”
