Feeney getting used to Audi life

Feeney

By Thomas Miles

Broc Feeney only found out he was taking on the Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour last week, but he is quickly getting accustomed to life in an Audi.

Thanks to co-driver Ricardo Feller, the #183 Melbourne Performance Centre, also including Liam Talbot, will start the 12 Hour from second on the grid.

Feeney is more than familiar with starting on the front row, having also been second on the grid in his last two 12 Hours.

The Triple Eight Supercars driver has a strong record at the 12 Hour, always finishing and has a podium in 2022 and is in a good spot to chase a maiden win.

“After we got provisional pole I did not want to say anything hoping we could break the curse

But we have had a great run so far,” Feeney said.

“Working with Ricardo and Liam has been awesome and I have been leaning on them trying to learn an Audi.

“I have only done three to four runs but once you get going it is a car with four wheels and a motor on it.

“Driving around this place in these cars is super special, so pumped to be on the front row and the goal is to go one better.”

For Feeney, who did not know he was going to be driving the Audi R8 at the start of last week, it has been a quick learning curve.

But with the help of his experienced Audi co-drivers, he is feeling on top of things.

“It has been an interesting week,” he said.

“I found out last week and we did a shakedown at Winton which is very suited to a GT3 car so I got up to speed.

“Coming here it was nerve racking going out for the first time and did not know what to expect going across the top of the mountain.

“But once you get a couple of laps under your belt it is similar to the other things I have driven here.

“Like Ricardo and Liam there are so many buttons in this car that I have zero idea about and leaning on them, but slowly and surely getting closer.

“Looking forward to getting a few more laps under my belt in the car.”

The weekend began with big news away from the 12 Hour that Feeney’s Supercars team Triple Eight is making a massive return back to Ford, 17 years after moving to Holden.

But its current young star is solely focused on 12 Hour success.

“I am here to race the 12 Hour so it is the last thing in the back of my mind at the moment,” Feeney said.

“But the team has made a decision to switch manufacturers so I support whatever they do.

“We have the right people at the top.”
