Agius gives home fans early cheer

The cheers are already evident at a cold Phillip Island with home hero Senna Agius topping Moto2 Practice 2 to kick off the Saturday of the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
As the goal posts regularly shifted in changeable conditions Agius was regularly at the front of the field, taking turns in P1.
Eventually a glory run inside the final six minutes proved to be the killer blow, with the Intact GP rider recording a 1:42.635.
This lap recorded with four minutes to go was more than half a second clear of next best Tony Abrolino, 0.588s adrift ahead of Darryn Binder, Jake Dixon and Sergio Garcia.
Fellow Aussie fill in Harrison Voight had a tougher session, falling at Miller Corner and the rookie was 22nd.
But he was far from the only one to fall in the tricky conditions with many being caught out.
Due to the wet weather, the important combined times were unchanged with Fermin Aldeguer’s 1:32.718 remaining unchallenged ahead of Aron Canes and Alonso Lopez.
Agius emerged on top following a number of tussles for first with a 1:42.63
As a result Agius and Voight will be out in Q1 when qualifying kicks off 13.45 AEDT.
In Moto3 the Aussies also showed speed with Joel Kelso securing eighth in the session led by Angel Piqueras, with a 1:44.632 while Tech3 local hope Jocab Roulstone was 26th.
Moto3 returns to the track for qualifying at 12.50 AEDT.
All eyes are now on MotoGP with qualifying about to take centre stage at Phillip Island.
