Pramac Yamaha sign first rider

Oliveira

By Thomas Miles

The team widely expected to provide Jack Miller a lifeline, Pramac Yamaha has signed its first rider and it is not the Australian.

Current Trackhouse rider Miguel Oliveira is the first rider to be confirmed at the satellite squad currently leading the championship.

The Portuguese rider has five wins and seven podiums during a career that started in 2019 across periods with Tech3, KTM, RNF and Trackhouse.

It leaves just one seat left unconfirmed on the 2025 MotoGP grid alongside Oliveira at the Pramac team, which is making the big shift from Ducati to Yamaha support at the end of the year.

But it is widely believed Australian Miller will eventually be named at the team he rode for from 2018-2021.

Oliveira said it will be an honour to represent Yamaha having lost his spot at Trackhouse to Moto2 race winner Ai Ogura.

“It’s a great privilege for me to represent such an iconic brand in our sport as Yamaha,” said Oliveira.

“Through my years of progression and arriving in MotoGP, I’ve always looked upon the blue bikes with great enthusiasm.

“It’s now a reality, and I want to thank Yamaha Motor Company for its commitment to me in such an important transition phase of the project.

“Mr Lin Jarvis was a key figure in starting discussions and making this happen.

“I believe I can be useful in this transition period of bringing the bike back to the top.

“I want to thank Mr. Campinoti, Gino Borsoi, and all the Pramac staff for embarking on this journey together.

“I can’t be happier and more excited to get this new chapter started.”

Ahead of this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix, Pramac boss Gino Borsoi explained why the team has been later than the rest in confirming its riders.

“As everyone knows, we have already decided our riders,” Pramac team boss Gino Borsoi told TNT Sports.

“At (the first Misano round this weekend) or (the second Misano round from September 20) we will announce our future.

“Just some details, and that’s it,” he continued when asked why.

“We have to think about fighting for the championship with Jorge, and also about Yamaha and a team in Moto2, so it is a tough ask that we have.”
