Big cash injection for TA2 Enduro at the Bend

By Timothy Neal

The upcoming TA2 Muscle Car Series round at The Bend Motorsport Park on August 30 – September 1 has been injected with $25,000 of cash and prizes courtesy of AC Delco.

The unique two-driver TA2 Tag Team mini enduro event, modelled on the successful 2023 Darwin King of the North two driver format, will post up a winner takes all $20,000 cash bonus for the highest cumulative point scoring two driver combo over all 6 races.

There’s also a bonus $5,000 worth of AC Delco Power Tools for the outright AC Delco Tag Team winners of the 25 lap finale Sunday afternoon.

“The Bend Motorsport Park is a world class facility and perfect to showcase our largest TA2 entry

for the season with a field of quality competitive drivers,” says TA2 Category Manager Craig Denyer

“Our thanks to AC Delco, HYTEK Steel Framing and TFH Hire for stepping up to offer a fitting reward for what will be a weekend of intense racing for the best performing team.”

Erebus Academy Super2 driver Jarod Hughes will be looking to add to his TA2 win tally at The Bend

The weekend will see a 23 car field that includes the likes of series leader Josh Haynes, Super2 driver and TA2 race winning Jarrod Hughes, former Supercars driver Todd Hazelwood, Jordan Cox, Elliot Barbour, Zach Bates, and his cousin Sam Bates, and more.

Each driver in the unique format gets their own qualifying session and Sprint Races, with the pairs then combining for the 25 lap finale where there will be a compulsory 90 second pit stop during a nominated lap window.

Two of the series frontrunners in Josh Haynes and Brad Gartner (third) have yet to declare if they’ll take up the tag team option or go solo for the finale, but Hazelwood will be one of the hot favourites across the weekend.

Other two driver combos include Kubota Racings Matt Mackelden and 2017 TA2 champ Russell Wright, former TA2 WA Champ Brett Niall and Perth’s Clint Harvey, and 20-year old Perth TA2 driver Chase Hoy partnering with John Holinger.

Haynes currently leads the series by 28 points from Graham Cheney, whilst Gartner is in third, 72 points back on the leader.

The weekend’s action will be live-streamed and televised on SBS, Fox Sport and Kayo Sports.
