Ninovic hunting big title points in Scotland

By Timothy Neal

This Weekend sees young Aussie Alex Ninovic heading to Scotland’s Knockhill Circuit for Round 7 of the British F4 Championship, as he looks to close the 66 point gap from second in the title race.

It has been a stellar season thus far for the young Aussie in the #12 Rodin machinery, as he continues to challenge for the title in his rookie year.

Since his podium getting debut at Donington Park back in April, the New South Welshman has gone from strength-to-strength in challenging leading British driver Deagen Fairclough, with three wins highlighting a rampant run of podium finishes.

In 17 races so far, he’s had 12 podium finishes (the three wins included) with nine of those coming in a four round hot-streak from Snetterton to Zandvoort.

Ninovic scooped a third season win at Zandvoort in the British F4’s intercontinental round

That has  left Fairclough and himself as the run-away drivers on 298 and 232 points respectively, with the next best contender – Reza Seewooruthun – on 151 points.

This weekend he faces an all knew challenge in Scotland as he heads to the iconic track in Fife, northwest of Edinburgh in the country’s south.

The 2.04km track is notorious for its narrow and undulating nature, with the track comprising of corners such as the Duffus Dip, McIntyre’s, Butcher’s, the Black Circles Chicane, and Taylor’s Hairpin.

Opened in 1974 and created from joining service roads to a nearby disused mineral railway, its challenging nature has made it a favourite track amongst the British racing community.

Knockhill’s undulating outer limits and sharp hairpin make it a challenging circuit

Ninovic enters this round having recently travelled to Zandvoort in the Netherlands for the first time, where he managed a P2 in Race 1, before taking his third win of the year in the second outing, before his long running podium streak ended in Race 3 with an eighteenth place.

The Rodin youngster still has 12 races to close the 66 point gap, with visits to Knockhill, Donington Park, Silverstone, and Brands Hatch to complete the calendar.

Qualifying at Knockhill starts at 1055am local time on Saturday morning with Race One on Saturday afternoon at 1630pm. Races Two and Three will be on Sunday at 1055am and 1555pm respectively.
