Sandown debut for new MSR chassis

By Thomas Miles

Nick Percat and Dylan O’Keeffe will take on the Sandown 500 with a brand new chassis Matt Stone Racing (MSR) has confirmed.

The new chassis is called MSR-05 and is on track to make its on-track debut at the iconic September enduro.

The front and rear clips have been attached, while the Chevrolet engine is also in place.

Team principal Matt Stone expects things to be almost completed by the time the Tasmanian SuperSprint rolls around next month.

“The build of MSR-05, our third Gen3 Supercar chassis, is progressing well,” he said.

“Despite a busy calendar, the team has made solid progress in the break between rounds, with the front and rear clip now on, and the Chevrolet engine bolted in as well.

“We expect the build to be 90% complete by the time we head to Tasmania, with just the drivetrain to swap over after the Symmons Plains round ahead of a planned Sandown debut for MSR-05.

“Another new chassis will then be built to cycle in as Car #4, which will be debuted by Cameron Hill in 2025.”

The arrival of a new chassis means a pause in racing commitments for Percat’s current chassis MSR-04.

MSR-04 will go down as one of the most famous in MSR history having collected both of the team’s wins to date.

It was debuted by Jack Le Brocq at the dawn of the Gen3 era and driven to victory at Darwin.

The chassis then changed hands to Percat for the start of the 2024 season and the winning connection continued when the new arrival stunned the grid by scoring a special win in the Albert Park finale.

If MSR-04 is to score any further Supercars wins, Percat has two more races at Symmons Plains.

Hill is currently racing MSR-03, which will remain in use for the remainder of the 2024 season.
