GT and Trans Am fields confirmed for Queensland

Trans Am Queensland

By Thomas Miles

The entry lists for two of the leading SpeedSeries items at Queensland Raceway this weekend, GT World Challenge and Trans Am have been confirmed.

There are plenty of big names in both fields as the title chases resumes from periods away from the track.

The Trans Am field has grown to a season-high 21 cars for the fifth round of the year.

This arrives after a directive from the Australian Racing Group which forced all new entires hoping to compete in the high profile finale at Adelaide to race in at least two Trans Am rounds and for yet-to-race teams, that would not be possible without being at Queensland Raceway this weekend.

The biggest change has happened in the Garry Rogers Racing garage with Supercars star Tim Slade making way for regular podium finisher Brett Holdsworth.

TCR star Jordan Cox will make his Trans Am debut having previously enjoyed success in TA2 for Holinger Racing.

The Pro Am field has been boosted by newcomers Jason Pryde, Des Collier and Domain Ramsey.

GRM teammates Hames Moffat and James Golding lead the title race with Todd Hazelwood looking to continue gaining ground.

An 18-car field will be chasing GT World Challenge Australia glory where the Arise Racing Ferraris are leading the way.

Reigning champion Liam Talbot and Supercars star Chaz Mostert currently lead the way, but only by seven points.

Right behind them are Will Brown and Brad Schumacher in the Audi with Kiwi teammates Tim Miles and Brendon Leitch.

Leading the way for the three-pointed star are Peter Hackett/Declan Fraser, plus Paul Lucchitti/Jayden Ojeda.

The field that already has a wide variety of Ferraris, Mercedes and Audis has been boosted by the arrival of both Aston Martin and Porsche.

An IMSA Aston Martin Vantage GT3 is being introduced by Volante Rosso Motorsport with rookie Alex Gardner receiving his new challenge after winning last year’s Radical Cup alongside experienced GT driver Ben Porter.

Competing in the GT Trophy are Paul Morris and Scott Taylor, who brings Porsche back to the championship with a 997 GT3 R.

They will come up against Darren Currie and Valentino Astuti, who are also driving an Aston Martin Vantage, while Chris Batzios and Ross Poulakis is returning to the Am class currently led by Mike Sheargold and Garth Walden.

For Trans Am practice and qualifying will be held on Friday, while four races are spread evenly across the weekend.
