Doohan gets British GP drive

Doohan

By Thomas Miles

Australia’s Jack Doohan will get another coveted Formula 1 Free Practice appearance at this weekend’s British Grand Prix.

Doohan will jump into Pierre Gasly’s Alpine A524 in Free Practice 1 at Silverstone this Friday.

It will be his second Formula 1 drive in 2024 after driving Esteban Ocon’s car at Canada, but due to heavy rain the Aussie was only able to get three laps under his belt.

Unfortunately the classic British weather may mean Doohan’s second 2024 appearance may not be held in dry conditions with a 70% chance of showers during the opening session of the weekend.

Doohan will not be the only youngster in action with Franco Colapinto to get an F1 FP1 debut for Williams.

Doohan is in the mix to replace the departing Ocon in 2025 with the drive another chance to impress.

It will be his sixth Formula 1 race weekend appearance with the first coming in Mexico in 2022.

The practice session will come immediately after a test in a 2022 spec Alpine alongside Mick Schumacher at Circuit Paul Ricard.

After finishing a solid third in last year’s FIA Formula 2 Championship, Doohan has focused on his Alpine Reserve driver duties in 2024.

The opening practice session will begin at 21.30 AEST this Friday night where Doohan will be in action.
