The Sunday Times in Western Australia has confirmed this morning that the Cook Government and Supercars Australia are developing a street race concept in the Burswood Park area for 2026, as tipped in Auto Action recently.

The article by Joe Spagnolo says the roads in the area will be upgraded for the event, which will be part of a 10-day motorsport festival that concludes in Kwinana, the Premier’s hometown.

“Living in Kwinana, I know how big our motorsport community is in WA,” the Premier, Roger Cook, told the paper. “We’ve seen the success of street circuits over east, and Burswood Park would be the perfect place for a uniquely WA event.”

Spagnolo says the crowd target is around 50,000 a day, which is a big uplift in the 30,000 across the three days at Wanneroo Raceway this year. It looks like it will follow the Australian Grand Prix model at Albert Park, with permanent facilities to be built that can be multi-purposed at other times of the year, and that curiously it would create a new track for local motorsport enthusiasts, indicating it is more than just standard street track.

It is also believed that the Government, which wants Perth to become a recognised sports and entertainment city, will use the track to target the global Formula E series.

The Supercars Championship Series is expected to expand to 14 rounds next year, and then 15 or 16 in 2026 when the new Perth street race replaces Wanneroo Raceway.

More details as they come to hand.
