PremiAir aiming for testing boost

PremiAir

By Thomas Miles

PremiAir Nulon Racing is hoping a Supersoft tyre focus at a recent test can put them in good stead for the upcoming Darwin Triple Crown.

The team staged a “productive” test at Queensland Raceway after the latest round in Wanneroo where it tried to unlock speed from the Supersoft tyre.

PremiAir will be keen to return to the top 10 at Hidden Valley after missing out at the Perth SuperSprint.

After a solid run of results in New Zealand, James Golding had to settle for 14th and 16th in WA with Sunday qualifying especially a battle.

Both PremiAir cars reached Q3 on the Saturday, but lost ground in the race with Tim Slade finishing 12th on the Saturday and losing 12 spots on the Sunday to be 22nd.

Now with a test up its sleeve, the team is determined to fight hard at the Indigenous Round where Golding and Slade recorded one top 10 each last year.

PremiAir Nulon Racing Team Manager Stephen Robertson believes the squad is “feeling strong” ahead of the Darwin Triple Crown.

“We have been very busy with preparations since we last hit the track for the Perth Super Sprint, heading out to Queensland Raceway for a productive test day,” he said.

“At QR, we focused heavily on the Super Soft tyres that will be used in Darwin, and we also had David Russell along for the day, who provided some valuable feedback on the car set-ups alongside our drivers Tim Slade and Jimmy Golding – with who David will be co-driving at the endurance races later this year.

“It is safe to say we got a lot out of this test day, and we are feeling strong as we get ready to head north with a game plan well and truly locked down.

“Tim and Jimmy have some good history to back them up in Darwin as well, with Tim having stood on the podium there twice before and Jimmy qualifying and finishing in the top ten last year on his first visit to Hidden Valley Raceway as part of our team.

“We are more than ready for the on-track action.”

The Supercars hit the track at 11.35 ACST and 12.05 AEST.
