Extra Trans Am title on the line

Trans Am 2020 Adelaide 500

By Thomas Miles

There will be an additional championship within the 2024 Trans Am title race featuring the final two showpiece events.

The new prize on the line is called the Mountain to City Challenge where drivers will fight for supremacy when tackling two iconic venues in the space of one week.

The first stop is the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International on November 8-9 where the Trans Am 250 will be held headlined by two 125km races.

With the penultimate round wrapping up on the Saturday, Trans Am competitors will have the chance of working on their cars on Sunday before arriving at the Adelaide 500 midweek.

For just the second time in the category’s history, Trans Am will go racing around the famous streets of Adelaide and first since 2020 when Aaron Seton took a clean sweep.

The three races will be the seventh and final round of the season and provide a special stage to decide the 2024 Trans Am champion.

But now in addition to the overall championship, the separate Mountain to City Challenge will also be on the line.

Despite the tight turnaround, teams that compete in both events will also be rewarded with a set of free tyres, which can be claimed in Adelaide.

Trans Am Category Manager Graham Sattler believes the new two-event title justifies the special events that end the 2024 season.

“We are providing an incredible opportunity for competitors to be involved in two massive events, at two of the country’s most renowned circuits in the span of just a week,” he said.

“It is a very unique circumstance to have an opportunity like this, so as a Series we are embracing it and making sure we give our teams the best experience.

“Likewise, we’re giving our fans even more reason to come to the ‘Mountain’ and the ‘City’ or tune in for an action-packed week of Trico Trans Am Series racing.”

James Moffat currently leads the Trans Am title race with the next round at Queensland Raceway on August 2-4.
