BJR reveals stunning Indigenous Round liveries

By Thomas Miles

Brad Jones Racing (BJR) has unveiled its stunning Indigenous Round liveries for Kiwis Andre Heimgartner and Jaxon Evans.

Both of the usual liveries for the #8 and #12 Camaros have been reimagined with special artworks to mark the one-off occasion at Hidden Valley Raceway.

For Heimgartner’s livery, BJR partnered with the Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) and their community groups to produce the artwork behind the livery for a second year.

Symbolism of the ‘warrior’ can be seen throughout the livery, which has been produced with this year’s NAIDOC theme at the heart – ‘Keeping the fire burning – blak, loud and proud’.

It also includes Badja Bayaderra, the long-neck turtle, while the blue lines are symbolic of the Murray River.

“When we were asked to continue this partnership for the 2024 Supercars Indigenous Round we were very happy to do so,” explained Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation’s Carl Tunstall.

“We were able to see how beneficial it was to the men in our working groups who worked very hard to create these pieces of artwork and storytelling.

“For this piece the focus is on warriors. Warriors pass along Aboriginal culture between generations through stories, songs and dance.  The symbol on the bonnet represents a meeting place for warriors.”

“The R&J Batteries car looks impressive in its Indigenous Round livery,” Heimgartner said.

“The Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation does a terrific job within the Albury/Wodonga community and it’s awesome that we get to carry that representation in Darwin.

“Every year we’re able to learn through their artists and I’m humbled and proud to carry it into Darwin.”

Evans’ livery has been transformed with the white base covered by some beautiful Indigenous Round artwork from proud Goomeroi/Kamilaroi woman Elenore Binge.

It is the third year of the partnership between the artist and SCT Logistics, bringing to life the piece ‘Journey’ which was commissioned by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).

“I am very proud of my artwork “Journey” that has appeared for the third time on the SCT Motorsport’s Supercars’ livery,” Binge said.

“I thank the teams at SCT and BJR for this recognition.

“I hope to see it again next year in the Supercars Indigenous Round in Darwin. Good luck for the race!”

“Seeing the whole car wrapped in this standout design for the Indigenous Round is really cool,” Evans said.

“Elenore’s artwork and the work of ARTC, that SCT wholly supports – go together perfectly.

“It feels good heading to Darwin with a strong representation on car 12.”

Shane van Gisbergen won his first Xfinity Series race on the weekend in Portland, a week before Cam Waters and Will Brown join him as Cup Series drivers. The NASCAR racing was typically entertaining too.
