Miller not worried about his future

By Thomas Miles

Jack Miller is not paying any attention to the noise surrounding his future as he prepares to bounce back at this weekend’s Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

A third retirement in four races after falling at Turn 10 in Catalunya has left the Aussie 15th in the standings.

It is on track to be his lowest championship finish since his second season in 2015 for the small Marc VDS squad when he was 18th.

But more importantly he is third among the four KTM riders, well behind Tech3 rookie sensation Pedro Acosta (6th) and teammate Brad Binder (8th) and only two spots ahead of Augusto Fernandez.

With Acosta especially shining bright, there is increasing speculation the young Spaniard will be promoted to the top team in place of the #43.

When asked about how he is dealing with the “noise” Miller said he simply does not care.

“It is what it is, I am used to the noise,“ Miller told Jess Yeates in a one on one interview with Fox Sports.

“I have been in this game for a long time, rode in that whole Ducati program for five years so you learn to drown it out.

“I could not give a shit to be honest, it is what it is.

“I know I am doing the best I can possibly do and that is all that matters.

“I can ride a motorcycle very well and will continue to.

“I know the situation and what our plans are in terms of next year but it is what it is.

“At the moment I still have this opportunity to do some great things on this motorcycle and that is what I am trying to do.”

But interestingly when talking to the media at Mugello, Miller was full of praise for the Tech3 outfit.

“I’ve said that all along. I firmly believe Tech3 isn’t a satellite team anymore, it’s basically a factory bike that’s red and we know that,” Miller said.

“I love the guys at KTM. I think they’ve done a fantastic job in such a short amount of time.

“Obviously I think we’ve got four fantastic riders and if they need to reshuffle, then they reshuffle and keep going.”

When reflecting on his tough start to 2024 that has contained just one top 10 Grand Prix finish, Miller admitted he is still trying to get down to the bottom of his battles.

“I am disappointed to say the least,” he told Fox Sports.

“I put in so much work throughout the off season, straight from Valencia (last year’s finale).

“I feel like everything is there but we have not been able to get the ball rolling.

“I know that if we stick with this and what we have been doing for the last four months it has to turn around because it can’t not.

“I am still trying to work that one out,” Miller continued when asked what is lacking.

“There have been some changes this year, the bike is fantastic.

“The rear tyre changed in the way you put the weight into it and the lines that you can run.

“It is not so much v-ing the corner and getting the maximum power out, it is almost come back to making more rounded lines and managing the spin.

“I am sure once we get this monkey off our back it will get better but as I said we put in too much work not to get better.”

The Italian Grand Prix begins tonight at Mugello.
