PERSPECTIVE ON PIASTRI’S PERFORMANCE

By Auto Action

Monaco, as they say, is the track where driver talent shines – a real driver’s circuit.

Look at the previous winners: Senna (6 wins); Schumacher, Hill (5); Prost (4); Hamilton, Rosberg, Stewart, Moss (3), and of course, among the double winners, our own Mark Webber.

A few statistics, then, to consider alongside Oscar Piastri’s sensational Monaco front row, P2, qualifying effort last night are worth a look – puts some perspective on his achievement, considering his F1 experience …

These are the numbers of Grands Prix contested (entered) to date by tonight’s Monaco starting grid, in grid order …

Discounting about-to-be-dumped Logan Sargeant, the next lowest to Piastri (29) is Tsunoda (73). Oscar’s McLaren team-mate has nearly four-times as many F1 starts.

Not a bad effort if you’re watching, Crofty and Co!

LeClerc 133
Piastri 29
Sainz 193
Norris 112
Russell 111
Verstappen 193
Hamilton 340
Tsunoda 73
Albon 89
Gasly 137
Ocon 140
Ricciardo 248
Stroll 150
Alonso 384
Sargeant 28
Perez 267
Bottas 229
Guanyu 51
Hulkenberg 213
Magnussen 166

How fitting, then, that Piastri is running a McLaren, with his helmet, in colours honouring Senna.

Tonight’s Monaco coverage, on Foxtel/Kayo, starts at 9.30pm, with race start at 11pm
