Stage set for Historic Winton

Winton Motor Raceway will turn back the clock over the next three days with the 47th Winton Historic kicking off tomorrow.

The event conducted by the Austin 7 Club will feature over 400 historic racing cars and motorbikes from the 1920s to the 1980s.

All the usual favourites return, but there will also be some new events for enthusiasts to enjoy.

The weekend of historic cars and motorcycles kicks off on Friday for the Benalla Historic Vehicle Tour where best-presented or unusual vehicles are selected in the running for a Historic Winton “Director’s Choice” Award.

The regularity events will be on show throughout Friday afternoon before the rest of the classes go racing on both Saturday and Sunday.

Come the weekend a highlight will be the Cortina Challenge where a group of the zippy Fords from the 60s and 70s race neck and neck.

Tin Top Regularity will be an interesting watch with Holden FX and FJs, Minis, more Cortina’s and other exotic brands to be in the field.

For the two-wheel fans, a motorcycle favourite series will also start on Saturday as Indian Motocycles battle it out against Harley Davidsons.

The oldest class will be Ja and Jb Vintage Cars featuring cars from prior to 1931.

The 1931-1940 period will be covered by Ka and Kb Post-Vintage Thoroughbred Cars.

The post World War 2 period will be reflected by Lb Sports Racing and Racing Cars, plus Na Production Touring Cars pre 1958 and finally Sa Production Sports Cars 1941-1960.

M Racing and Sports Racing 1961-1965 and Group Nb pre 1965, O Racing and Sports Racing Cars 1966-69 represent cars from a similar era.

Some of the favourites that raced in the ATCC from 1965-1972 will be seen in Nc Production Touring Cars class.

Those that raced in the seventies will be seen in Q Racing and Sports Racing Cars, Sc Production Sports Cars while R Sports and Racing Cars cover 1978-1987.

For the open wheel fans Formula Vee will feature Va pre 1975 and Vb to 1985, while Formula Ford will have both pre 1978 and 1978-1983.

Event highlights will be streamed on Facebook and Instagram, while tickets will be available both online and at the gate.
