Premier Speedway completes surface transformation

Premier Speedway new clay

By Thomas Miles

The new track surface is all set after Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway completed the transformation on Thursday.

In recent weeks the team at Premier Speedway has removed the old black clay which caused a number of issues during racing inconsistency and replaced it with a fresh orange toned lighter coloured clay.

In addition to the clay change, the track shape has been changed with the straights flattened.

The corners have also seen a more gradual angle increase opposed to the previous steeper angle changes.

These have been made to “achieve two distinct racing lines” on the bottom on the top.

In the high line there is a slightly higher angle, which is expected to avoid the cars from sliding into the outside wall.

Premier Speedway Club General Manager Michael Parry wanted to thank Lee Contracting for completing the huge project.

“Having Jack Lee lead the project and guys such as Jamie Veal and Louie O’Brien involved with their vast knowledge and experience has been instrumental not only in the changeover but reshaping the surface,” he said.

Drivers will come to grips with the new surface at practice sessions planned prior to the start of the 2024/25 season which begins on November 2.
