Date change for NDRC Nitro Champs

By Thomas Miles

The Gulf Western Oil Nitro Champs National Drag Racing Championship event in Sydney has a new date after being pushed back a fortnight.

The NDRC double header featuring both Top Fuel and Funny Cars was expected to roar at Sydney Dragway this weekend along with Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, FuelTech Pro Mod and the Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship’s Eastern Conference.

But in an attempt to avoid extreme weather conditions forecast across the next two weeks, the NDRC has pushed it back to May 17-19.

NDRC Co-Founder Andy Lopez said it was a tough call, but believes it gives the Nitro Champs the best chance of being a success.

“No one likes to reschedule events, but with the extreme weather coming up, this is the right call to make, ensuring we can deliver on our promise of Australia’s biggest nitro-fuelled drag racing event,” he said.

“With the weather forecast as clear as this one is, we knew we wanted to make this call early to allow our spectators and racers to plan accordingly.

“We are really excited to confirm that our planned racing and entertainment will be coming for our new dates, we have other plans in the works also, and we look forward to putting on a huge show for what will hopefully be a packed house.

“Rest assured, we’re already hard at work to make sure this event is as massive as possible.

“It will absolutely be well worth the wait!”

All tickets and race entries purchased remain valid for the new dates. All spectator and competitor purchasers will receive an email with this information as well as instructions on what to do if they’re unable to attend.

We’re back from our weekend in Taupo (Tow Paw), and what an unbelievable first weekend for that venue. It was, we felt, the start of this season, too, despite it being the third round. Andrew and Bruce were there, and PG was on the couch.

Brodie Kostecki was back for Erebus, Andre Heimgartner won for Brad Jones Racing, and Will Brown battled his teammate Broc Feeney for the other win. Anton De Pasquale also won the Jason Richards Trophy for the best performer over the two races – is Dick Johnson Racing back?
