Price racing for more than results

Price Radical

By Thomas Miles

Former Supercars driver Melinda Price will not only be racing for trophies in the 2024 Radical Cup Australia Series, but also breast cancer awareness.

Price will line up with Greg Kenny for a second straight Radical Cup campaign for Volante Rosso Motorsport in 2024 after finishing 13th overall and seventh in the Am class last year.

She hopes to build on the experience of her return to national level racing when the new season begins at Phillip Island in April.

“By the end of last year, we’d made some really solid gains,” Price said.

“Greg and I had some really good pace and I have certainly been working hard throughout summer to ensure that I’m in better shape to muscle that car around.

“They are a high grip, very physical machine to drive – I feel like I’m ready for a big season.”

Price is best remembered for her solid Supercars stint racing under the Castrol Cougars banner.

She and Kerryn Brewer teamed up to finish 12th at the 1997 Bathurst 1000, only to better it the following year in 1998 in a Perkins supported VS Commodore.

Their result still places them as the highest achieving all female driver pairing in Bathurst history, while she also took on Mount Panorama’s 24 Hour race.

In addition to making 16 Supercars race starts, Price also has international racing experience completing three Nurburgring 24 Hour races.

However, she is also a breast cancer survivor and aims to raise money and awareness throughout the 2024 Radical Cup Australia season.

Her car will carry a QR code where people can donate towards Breast Cancer Network Australia’s PLAY4BCNA Pink Sports Day.

“Surviving breast cancer was a battle that tested me both physically and mentally – especially being at the point of giving birth,” said Price.

“But it also made me realise the power of community and the importance of giving back.

“I’ve worked closely with BCNA using my platform in racing to raise awareness and wish to extend that this year.”

Price is also a Motorsport Australia Girls on Track Champion and program participants will have the chance to “takeover” the her social media account at events plus get a taste of life inside a garage during a race weekend.

The 2024 Radical Cup Australia season begins at Phillip Island on April 12-14.
