Ingram goes back to back

Ingram Sports Sedans Tasmania

By Thomas Miles

Peter Ingram and his Mazda RX7 have done the double in the Precision National Sports Sedan Series as his rivals found trouble in Tasmania.

The race ended under the control of the safety car due to both Steve Tamasi and Ashley Jarvis being stationary halfway up the first straight.

This was the second and final stoppage after Tamasi was also caught in some chaos at the drop of the flag.

Whilst Ingram flew away from pole, his two nearest rivals hit trouble.

Ben Purtell tagged Tamasi from a long way back at turn 2 and the pair rotated in front of the field, which then had to scatter across the grass.

The one car unable to avoid the pair was Geoff Taunton, who brushed the Nissan 180sx and as a result the bonnet flew off his MARC at the hairpin.

However, he carried on in third behind Ingram and Kim Barwick with already the best part of 6s between the leading pair when they completed the opening lap.

But the gap was wiped out by the Safety Car which was required to clean up the debris from the opening lap.

The restart arrived on lap 5 and the top two held position as Taunton had both fronts locked up on approach to the hairpin and just avoided torpedoing Barwick. Despite the scare he just held third ahead of Duggan.

Further back Tamasi was a man on a mission and returned to the top five by lap 7 when he knocked off both Ryan Humfrey and Ashley Jarvis.

However, the Calibra found some resistance in the form of Duggan, who was desperate to retain fourth in the Aston Martin.

The Safety Car returned on lap 10 when Jarvis stopped halfway up the first straight.

With his Monaro full of smoke, Jarvis stopped and jumped out quickly.

But any hope of a restart was denied when Tamasi pulled up right behind Jarvis two laps later.

It was a blow for Tamasi who raced his way up to fifth from the back but stopped due to an electrical issue.

The third and final Precision National Sports Sedan Series race is at 14.45 AEDT and all eyes will be on Ingram to see if he can do a clean sweep.
