New BRT Mustang breaks cover

Courtney BRT Ford the bend

By Thomas Miles

The third Blanchard Racing Team (BRT) chassis has appeared in special Ford Performance covers at The Bend.

The chassis named TR-27 was put through its paces at a rookie test day for Aaron Love at the south Australian venue.

Love’s BRT teammate James Courtney drove the third chassis in a #16 Ford Performance livery which will also be seen at this weekend’s Adelaide Motorsport Festival where the 2010 Supercars champion will take former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner for some hot laps.

The third chassis that was Declan Fraser’s car last year is in addition to BRT’s current Mustang Supercars built in-house.

Joining BRT was Walkinshaw Andretti United as Ryan Wood also cut some laps in the #2 Mustang.

It was a timely trip to The Bend for Love who endured a character building debut at Bathurst.

Despite showing strong speed on Sunday, the rookie crashed three times in two races to leave his opening weekend with just 39 points.

“It was a positive to get the first round out of the way and learn from our mistakes,” Love told AUTO ACTION after Bathurst.

“I think everyone makes a mistake or two in not just their rookie round but overall each year and some are bigger than others.

“We will try to reset and learn from it to figure out why I made the mistakes and not what happened.

“There has been a big build up for the team to get everything ready, not only expanding to two cars but from the logistical side of things to extra garage walking and setup.

“Now we need to put resources into developing the speed of the car and even despite the results, there was a really positive qualifying pace.”

The busy day at The Bend comes within a fortnight of the Australian Grand Prix on March 21-24.

Hooray, F1 is back. Boo, Max Verstappen wins. The Bahrain Grand Prix was a little underwhelming, but at least there was racing… and scandal. There was plenty of scandel, but we don’t do that stuff apparently, so we don’t talk about Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen.
