Tickford releases 2024 war paint

By Thomas Miles

Tickford might have a different feel but it will race with similar paint schemes on cars #6 and #55 in 2024.

Cameron Waters will carry on using his familiar all black Monster Mustang that has been a fixture since his full time debut in 2016.

Alongside him in the garage will only be Thomas Randle, who will race the #55 with a more colourful Castrol Mustang.

Notably the Ford squad is also the first to race with Coke backing after Erebus.

It is believed in the interest of keeping the Coke brand in Supercars, several teams will be seen with the famous brand.

Interestingly he has opted to retain the #55 which means for just the second time in the team’s history it will not race with the iconic #5 since 2003.

It is also the first time Tickford is racing with just two cars since 2009 when Castrol was also the major sponsor of the sister entry then raced by Steven Richards.

Since 2017 Waters has used the largely the same completely black livery with the annual changes focused around the placement of the stickers.

In 2024 the Monster Energy logos are slightly bigger, whilst the Autobarn stickers take up a much larger amount of space on the rear quarter panel.

There is slightly more colour however with the red of Ryco and green of BP appearing in small spots on the front wing and rear window respectively.

Waters hopes to carry on his momentum of his flying finish from 2023 into the 2024 season.

After what shaped up to be an infuriating year marred by bad luck and parity frustrations, Waters finally broke through with an emotional win on the Saturday of the Gold Coast.

Whilst car #6 won on the Saturday in Newcastle, that was the first win on the road and the Mildura boy immediately repeated it with a commanding performance in the Adelaide 500 opener at the following round.

With two wins in as many rounds, Waters arrives at Bathurst with plenty of form and motivation as he steps up his chase for a maiden Supercars title.

Waters’ only teammate in 2024 will be close mate Randle, who also enjoyed some breakthroughs In his second Supercars season the 27-year-old scored the first podiums of his full-time career during one special weekend at The Bend.

He collected a trophy in all three races during that sprint event and when racing returned to South Australia for the Adelaide 500 finale, car #55 also finished third behind the victorious Waters.

These performances helped Randle rise 10 spots compared to his rookie year to 13th in the standings and easily be the second best Tickford driver.

This meant that the Castrol driver was preferred over the likes of James Courtney and Declan Fraser to be retained when the team shrank from four to two cars to “focus the team’s energy and resources to becoming a championship winning team”.

Randle’s 2024 livery is another distinct change from his previous looks.

Midway through last year car #55 changed from an all green look to a predominantly white scheme to marry up with Castrol’s new logo.

The latest variation sees the white and green theme remain on the front but the rear end of the car covered in red. Interestingly Coca-Cola appears on the rear quarter panel having left champions Erebus.

Tickford’s Rod Nash is proud of the two liveries and cannot wait to see them in the flesh.

“Tickford Racing is not just a team; it’s a community of passionate individuals united by the love of speed, competition, and the pursuit of victory,” he said.

“We thank all our working team for the preparation of our race cars and every other element that will be on display at track and at our Race Centre.

“Many thanks also to our existing partners and a huge welcome to our new sponsors.

“Our attention has a long view about the full year, but next week it’s all about the opening event.”
