More TCR for Bargwanna

By Thomas Miles

Ben Bargwanna is braced for a “big year” as he returns to the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia series after a busy 2023.

Bargwanna will conținue racing the Hangcha Forklifts backed Peugeot 308 TCR for a fourth campaign in the national category.

But the commitment to stay at home is important after the son of 2000 Bathurst 1000 winner Jason Bargwanna had a huge 2023 which included three TCR World Tour rounds at Portugal, Belgium and Macau, while he also made his S5000.

With all that going on he still had his best TCR Australia championship finish of seventh with three podiums at Phillip Island and Bathurst.

Bargwanna will start the new season in the existing Peugeot 308 before the planned mid-season switch to the latest GRM-constructed 308 TCR.

The third generation racer is eyeing a big opportunity with the new car.

“It’s going to be a big year,” said Bargwanna.

“The the way we approach the season will be very different to previous years and it will be important to maximise the rounds when we don’t have the new Peugeot.

“Then, when the new 308 TCR comes on stream, we can take full advantage to be in title contention at the end of the year.”

Despite the news that he will be staying in Australia, Bargwanna did not rule out more overseas experiences.

“At the moment we’re focused on Australia, but if we can make some things happen overseas it’d be awesome and we’ll be pushing hard to get those opportunities,” he said.

“I travelled overseas last year and got a taste for what it’s like to compete against the best TCR teams and drivers.

“I know what to expect, and I really hope we can get the right deals across the line to get back there and have another crack.”
