Taupo SuperSprint tickets finally on sale

Supercars 2022 Pukekohe

By Thomas Miles

New Zealand fans can chase tickets for the first Supercars race at Taupo which are now on sale a day later than planned and are available on Ticketek NZ.

With just one race in four years and the shutdown of Pukekohe Park Raceway, Kiwis have been starved of Supercars, but it will return to Aotearoa at a new venue in 2024

On April 19-21 2024 the championship will make its debut at Taupo International Motorsport Park, which will be the third NZ venue following Pukekohe and Hamilton and has previously hosted A1GP.

Thousands of fans will be flocking to the North Island venue, but they were forced to wait to get their hands on tickets.

The red boxes indicate where the grandstands will be roughly located at Taupo.

After a technical error caused confusion on Wednesday, tickets for the significant race were not available when originally promised.

But now tickets are on sale and can be purchased HERE having been released at 10.00am NZDT on Thursday morning.

Fans packages ranging from general admission as low as $35 to three different reserved seat grandstands which start from $270

The first grandstand is located at the tight turn seven left hander.

Another grandstand will be located at the following corner turn eight, which is a fast downhill left-handed sweeper that offers an “80% view” of the track.

The final grandstand is located near the end of the lap at the heavy braking turn 12, which kicks off the chicane at the end of the long straight and leads into the final sequence of corners and pit entry.

Despite the absence of the American bound Shane van Gisbergen who won last time out at Pukekohe, there will be four Kiwi drivers on the full-time grid with Andre Heimgartner (BJR) Richie Stanaway (Penrite Racing) Matt Payne (Penrite Racing) and Ryan Wood (WAU).

Supercars will be back in New Zealand at Taupo.

Heimgarner predicts there will be plenty of fellow Kiwis cheering on the locals with the same amount of passion as when Greg Murphy, Scott McLaughlin and van Gisbergen starred at Pukekohe.

“Yeah, it’s very exciting with the tickets going on sale, think everyone will be grabbing them up,” the Auckland born driver told Supercars.

“My friends, my family, that’s what makes it so special for us New Zealand.

“You get all that support from your friends, your family and even the whole motorsport community that you’ve been around your whole life, so for sure it’s one on the calendar we love.

Greg Murphy leads Mark Skaife on his way to winning the first ever championship race at
Pukekohe Park Raceway in 2001.

“It’ll be great for New Zealand motorsport to have four top Supercars drivers, and hopefully we can deliver.”

The Taupo SuperSprint shapes up to be the third round on the unconfirmed 2024 Supercars calendar on April 19-21.
