All is in readiness for the 60th anniversary Bathurst 1000 to fire up on Thursday after work has been going on for weeks at The Mountain to get everything ready. AUTO ACTION’s NSW race and rally man Bruce Moxon had a look around town and the venue.

Grandstands are in their usual spots along Pit Straight and on the outside of Hell Corner, while there’s a raised viewing area on the inside of Mountain Straight.

The Bathurst City Council paid particular attention to the grassed areas near the track; they were watered and mown and roped off to keep them looking nice.

Trackside kerbs have fresh paint and there are new signs on the walls and billboards. The campgrounds are immaculate too and the lovely flower beds on Mountain Straight and just after the Cutting are in fine form.

It wasn’t just the Council getting things in shape as residents of properties around the track have put private viewing areas in place.

In the paddock, marquees are ready for their racers too.

The curbs at Bathurst have received a fresh coat of paint, but will soon be black and rubbered up as the cop a pounding from the race tyres over the race weekend.

It seems the last thing to get painted will be the ‘Brock’s Skyline’ sign; it gets many messages of love for the great man, so it gets left to last to keep it as fresh as possible.

Even in town, everything is in readiness; there are banners along the streets, shops are decorated and there’s a replica of the 1968 winning Holden HK Monaro GTS327 driven by Bruce McPhee and Barry Mulholland outside K-Mart.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard was thrilled to see the excitement which will only grow in the next week.

The Bathurst camping grounds are pretty quiet now but will soon be filled with race fans for this years races. Beers and BBQ's will be the order of the day for these hardy soles who never miss a great race.

“Fans’ enthusiasm is truly remarkable. They’ve been lining up since early Friday morning to secure their camping spots, which sold out within just 90 minutes,” he said.

“Approximately 7,000 campsites will be filled in the coming days as we gear up for an action-packed weekend.

“The excitement will continue to build over coming days as Supercars teams prepare to hit the track for opening practice on Thursday.

“We anticipate a packed crowd right across Mount Panorama for Sunday’s Great Race.

“The support and dedication of our fans make events like the Bathurst 1000 truly special.”
