BRT confirm second Racing Charter

By Timothy Neal

The Blanchard Racing Team has confirmed it will expand its Gen3 CoolDrive Mustang garage to a two car team for the 2024 Supercars season.

Next year’s grid is taking shape fast, and the single car BRT outfit has joined the rush of change for 2024 with the long expected acquisition of a second Teams Racing Charter.

Punching above its weight since 2021 with single car campaigns they’ve achieved 31 top-ten finishes in that time, with Hazelwood’s efforts in 2023 producing four of those with a season high of fourth at Albert Park.

This season they’ve run a Super2 car with Aaron Love behind the wheel, who’ll make his main game wildcard debut at the Sandown 500 alongside Jake Kostecki, and it can be further expected that the young WA talent will take the wheel in one the Charters next season.

Aaron Love is expected to fill one of BRT two Racing Charters for the 2024 Supercars season.

There has been some talk that Hazelwood won’t be there despite his solid solo efforts, with the speculation being that James Courtney will take the other seat following Tickford’s reducing it’s four car team to two cars.

The growth will provide advantages from multiple standpoints, including staffing, logistically, technically, and at the track, where both cars will share a pit boom.

“We are incredibly excited to be expanding BRT into a two-car team for the 2024 season,” said Tim Blanchard, Co-Principal at the Blanchard Racing Team.

“Expansion was always part of our five-year plan when we started the team, and after taking steps in that direction this year with the Wildcard and Super 2 programs, we feel the timing is ideal.

“Starting as a one-car team was right for us initially, but we are now in the position where we need two cars’ worth of data for development purposes, and to also expand the business to create greater depth in staffing and other resources.

“This in turn, will ensure BRT will become even more competitive and sustainable moving forwards.

“We will announce drivers, sponsors, and other key components of the expansion in the coming weeks, but we are well advanced in the preparation for 2024 while still focussed on finishing this year strongly.”

The second Gen3 Ford Mustang, codenamed BRT002, is already built and will make its debut at the upcoming Sandown 500 endurance race as a wildcard entry piloted by Love and Kostecki.

The Sandown 500 will be held from 15-17 September, followed by the second Supercars endurance race of the season, the Bathurst 1000 from 5-8 October.
