Strong crowd heads to The Bend

By Thomas Miles

The first appearance of Gen3 at The Bend Motorsport Park has produced the largest crowd at the circuit since Supercars first arrived in 2018.

A total attendance of 41,237 ventured through the gates to watch Brodie Kostecki and his Coke Camaro clean sweep the Bend SuperSprint.

The figure is almost 4000 more than the 2022 crowd figure of 37,636, which had to endure heavy rain on the Sunday.

In addition to new cars, the South Australian circuit received a new name and multiple new additions.

The most notable was the change of location for the podium, which was moved away from above the pits and to the fans at the “Town Square” section located behind the pit complex.

This was also the scene of a concert featuring the Choirboys and Kingswood, which saw 2500 people rocking it out on Saturday night.

Shell V-Power Motorsport Park CEO Alistair MacDonald also revealed the number of interstate visitors to the event has doubled.

“We doubled our interstate attendance on last year and successfully executed several new innovations,” he said.

“So we cannot wait to come back and do it all when Supercars return to the Shell V-Power Motorsport Park in 2024.”

Shell V-Power Motorsport Park managing director Sam Shahin, who was also racing in Carrera Cup during the weekend was thrilled by the solid attendance numbers.

“This is a proud event and we are thrilled that the public continues to support it alongside the year round activity at our venue as we continue to put South Australia on the world motorsport map,” he said.

“I would like to thank South Australian’s and interstate travelers for backing our event and we hope you enjoyed the stellar conditions.”
