The famous 2019 Bathurst 1000 winning Ford Mustang driven by Scott McLaughlin has returned to a track now bearing its own name at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park.

Ahead of this weekend’s Bend SuperSprint, Dick Johnson Racing’s fourth and latest Great Race winner driven by Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat has arrived at the South Australian circuit’s Welcome Centre.

The car will sit alongside other famous Supercars such as Jamie Whincup’s 2012 Bathurst and championship winning VE Commodore and Peter Brock’s #05 Motorola VX Commodore he made his Great Race return in 2002.

It is well timed with the Mustang sporting Shell V-Power on the doors and arriving at the track just two days after the fuel was named as the naming rights partner of the track.

The Bathurst winning chassis is DJRTP06, which debuted as a freshly built Mustang at the 2019 Adelaide 500 and enjoyed a dream start, winning its first four races.

McLaughlin was a winning machine behind the wheel of his maiden Mustang, winning a record 18 races within the season, a feat recently beaten by Shane van Gisbergen last year.

Part of the run included a crushing sweep at that year’s Bend SuperSprint, while the breakthrough Bathurst glory was the last success before McLaughlin had a horrific qualifying crash at Gold Coast.

Having delivered DJR and Roger Penske a maiden Bathurst win together after four years of trying, the chassis has lived in America with the legendary team owner in Arizona.

After the crazy crash where the car ended up on its side, it has since been restored to its former glory of how it conquered Mount Panorama.

Following it’s restoration the car has been on display at the DJR workshop in Queensland and after its stay at The Bend it will relocate to the Penske Racing Museum in Arizona, USA.

Shell V-Power Motorsport Park CEO Alistair MacDonald said the McLaughlin car will only add to experience enjoyed by fans when they attend the racing this weekend.

“We are forever trying to blow fans and visitors of the Shell V-Power Motorsport Park away,” he said.

“It is a privilege to host this iconic car in our Welcome Centre, which is truly the epicentre of our venue.”
