Brook trumps opening day of Trans Am comeback

By Timothy Neal

Tim Brook’s one-off National Trans Am comeback has seen him top both practice sessions at the Queensland Raceway.

After the 2022 race winner was forced to pull the pin at the end of last season, his one-off return at QR has been via the #55 Auto Parts Plus Dodge Challenger.

The opening session of the day had the New South Welshman lay down a 1:12.193 to top Ben Grice’s All American Driveline Mustang by +0.298, with James Moffat in third over Edan Thornburrow  and Tom Hayman.

To prove his speed was no flash in the pan, Brooke then came out and topped the second session of the day, putting down a 1:12.941 to overcome Thornburrow by 0.155, whilst Moffat was again around the pace in third.

Qualifying is at 0900 tomorrow local time, whilst Race 1 is at 1225pm, and Race 2 at 1415.

The Porsche Michelin Sprint, young Grove Racing driver Oscar Targett took his maiden one-make pole by the barest of margins over Nash Morris, topping the TekworkX speedster by only 0.0012s seconds, with fellow young gun and round 1 pole getter Marcos Flack a close third.

Targett beat Morris to his maiden one-make pole by just 0.001s

Flack topped both the practice sessions earlier on in the day, and he’ll start next to fellow Queenslander Lachlan Bloxsom, making it an all Queensland top five with Aron Shields of TekworkX coming fifth over Ronan Murphy.

In the GT World Challenge Australia, it was the pairing of R.Poulakis/J.Ojeda in the Harolds Volante Mercedes AMG GT3 who topped the first session, with the Audi R8 of G.Emery/M.Hofer in second over fellow Audi drovers L.Talbot/G.Tander.

Talbot and Tander turned the tide in the second session with a very quick 1:08.436, edging out the Triple Eight Mercedes pair of A.Ibrahim/J.Whincup by +0.424, with the sister T8 AMG GT3 pairing of J.Ibrahim/B.Feeney in third.

Garth Tander topped the second practice of the day in the GT world challenge, coming home over both T8 Mercedes.

On the same day that Will Brown announced he was leaving Supercars championship leaders Erebus, the Queenslander topped both TCR practice sessions in his Audi RS3 LMS TCR.

Fellow Supercars driver Tim Slade finished second and third respectively in both sessions in his Ashley Seward Motorsport Lynk & Co, whilst Bailey Sweeney finished the day off nicely with a P2 in the second session. Zac Soutar took P2 in session one over Slade.

Brown swept up the TCR practice sessions at QR, with fellow Supercars driver Tim Slade also putting in a good showing

In the Australian Production Cars, the GT4 pole went to the pairing of S.Smollen/L.Mineef in the Porsche Cayman 718, topping Steve Jukes in his BMW F82 M4 by +01.067.

Grant Sheerin topped the X class  in his BMW F82 M4, whilst the A2 class pole went to C.Cowham/L.Kearns in their Ford Mustang GT.

Lastly, in the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series the pole position went to Jude Bargwanna in the Ford Falcon FG, whilst Jamie Tilley came second in the same ride by +0.351s.
