Supercars have announced a variation to the licence requirement to open up a pathway for young drivers to race in the Supercars Championship.
Rule A5.1.3.3 the Supercars Operations Manual stated that a minimum of six rounds in the Super2 Series was required to qualify for a Super Licence, but that has now been tweaked.
Effective immediately, any driver that has finished in the top three of either the Super3 championship, or the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia in the last three years, will be credited with the completion of three Super2 rounds.
That means of the current crop of drivers competing in this year’s Super2 championship, Kai Allen, Brad Vaughan and Aaron Love would immediately qualify for a spot on a Supercars grid.
Aaron Love immediately qualifies for a Super Licence after finishing second in his 2022 Carrera Cup campaign, as awell as having raced three Super2 rounds this year
With Love having finished second in last year’s Carrera Cup, and having completed three Super2 rounds this season, that immediately opens him up to a drive with Blanchard Racing, which would be possible at this year’s enduros with Todd Hazelwood.
With both Allen and Vaughan having finished in the top two of last year’s Super3 championship, their three Super2 rounds this season also qualifies them for a Super Licence.
The new amendment reads:
The following criteria will be permitted to a maximum of three (3) Dunlop Super2 Rounds:
i. A Driver having competed in and be one of the first three (3) of the final classification of that Supercars Australia Super3 Series in the last three (3) years, will be credited with three (3) DS2 Rounds towards the six (6) DS2 Rounds as required by Rule A5.1.3.3.
ii. A Driver having competed in and be one of the first three (3) of the final classification of the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Series in the last three (3) years, will be credited with three (3) DS2 Rounds towards the six (6) DS2 Rounds as required by Rule A5.1.3.3.
The Dunlop Super2 and Super3 Series are next in action when the Supercars heads to Sandown, September 15-17, for its fourth round of the 2023 season.
After winning the Super3 title in 2022, Brad Vaughan automatically qualifies for a Super Licence.

PODCAST: The latest episode of the Auto Action RevLimiter podcast is out now!
This week we look at Brodie Kostecki going to NASCAR (is Supercars no longer a destination class?) and continue with the chat around Supercars Parirty as a test day is washed out, again. Targa Tasmania has been shut down, and S5000s are running a “demonstration” – not a race – at the Bathurst International.

'description' => 'The Supercars Championship, currently known as the Repco Supercars Championship, is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia\'s biggest sports. It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
The Supercars Championship has grown to become a globally recognized series, known for its competitive racing and passionate fan base. It continues to be a major part of Australia\'s motorsport culture, attracting top drivers and teams from around the world.',
