Big fields ready for seaside Victorian State Race Series round

By Thomas Miles

Over 200 cars are expected to go racing around the picturesque Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit this weekend for the third round of the Victorian State Race Series.

The Phillip Island Auto Racing Club has joined forces to promote the event with the Victorian State Race Series and the result should produce a bumper weekend of racing.

Across 10 categories and 30 races, at least 208 cars will take on the sweeping seaside venue.

Leading the way is the largest field of Improved Production Cars with 37 diverse entires including the BMW E30s ready for action.

A “fantastic” 29 cars are part of the Formula Ford and Formula Ford 1600 field, while Formula Vee also breaks the 20-entry barrier.

The Holden versus Ford rivalry returns to Phillip Island with 22 Saloons doing battle, while action can also be guaranteed in the competitive one-make Hyundai Excel series where 25 cars are on the card.

The new for 2023 Toyota 86 Scholarship Series takes on the 4.445km circuit with 29 drivers, while Sports Sedans, Porsche 944s and Holden HQs complete the schedule.

Phillip Island beckons after solid opening rounds of the Victorian State Series at Sandown and Winton.

PIARC spokesman Geoff Bull said “the club is hoping even more entries in total for this fantastic series which continues to get better by the year with great racing.”

The meeting is the second of four PIARC promoted race meetings of 2023 and on-track action will take place between 9am and 5pm.

Tickets are available at EVENTBRITE and start from $30. More information can be found HERE
